NorthStar was contracted to perform the complete environmental remediation and demolition of a former paint manufacturing plant located along the Delaware River for BASF.  The Plant sat on approximately 600 acres, 17 acres of which made up the Plant’s footprint.

Scope of services included the environmental remediation of asbestos containing materials both friable and non-friable, the handling and removal of PCBs in transformers and surface contamination, and lead abatement.

The total demolition of all structures included: the manufacturing area, warehousing, administrative buildings, steam boilers over 100′ in height, power generation units, water towers, and a waste water treatment plant.  Special care was used in the proper closure and removal of the intake and discharge structures with close coordination with the Warren County and Delaware River authorities.

Site restoration included removal of concrete and paving below grade and crushing/recycling clean concrete from the demolition for placement and compaction in all pits, basements and subterranean areas.  The entire site was graded to specification and top soil was placed to establish vegetative growth to return the site to green space.

This project was performed on-time, on-budget and with no OSHA recordable incidents.
